Tucked away off the beaten path in Carroll County, providing the gateway to a Federal natural wildlife preserve, lies Spring Lake Campground. Just south of Savanna and a short drive from Chicago lies a hidden gem. Spring Lake Campground is a vintage campground established in 1943 that is on the banks of Spring Lake, a backwater lake of the Mississippi River. 
Growing up and still living in the area, Danika and James Perron took on a partnership with Spring Lake Campground in 2021 and quickly took on full ownership in 2022. The two of them are now dedicating their lives to building the campground as a traveler’s destination and a local legacy. Danika has a degree in Art; while James left the corporate world as an operations manager and designer to commit their lives to making this vision become a reality.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to stay in a tiny house or possibly live in one? This cabin-style home has everything you could need and is the perfect size for two. Inside the cabin, you will find a well-stocked kitchen, a 2-seat reclining couch, a movie bar, and a popcorn bucket! The bedroom is a loft-style queen, making the space open and comfortable. Enjoy a romantic getaway while stargazing at night. Grill out on the patio, cook some food on the fire pit grate, take a short walk to the peninsula to hang in the hammock, and watch the sunset.
Whether you are sitting outside enjoying the stunning lake views and sunset or lying inside on the loft bed, the sounds of nature and the birds surround you. Spring Lake is a sanctuary for wildlife and is a very important part of the river’s ecosystem, so from October 1st through December they close the lake for any boat traffic.
During your stay, make your way around the campground to enjoy all the special amenities they have to offer. Find the community garden for fresh vegetables. Bring your bike along to ride The Great River Bike Trail which comes right through the campground! Get out on the lake by renting a kayak, canoe, or stand-up paddle board.
