Fifteen miles Northwest of Mount Carroll, the county seat, lies Mississippi Palisades State Park. Mississippi Palisades offers cross-country skiing, sledding, and ice fishing.
The latter is allowed at the boat launch when the ice is thick enough. Catfish and carp are the most commonly caught fish, but bluegill, crappie and bass are out there, too. Those long on experience might even land walleye and/or northern pike.
Call or visit the park office ahead of time, at 815-273-2731 or 16327A Illinois Route 84, Savanna, Illinois, 61074.
